| Long Time Director Retires from PVH
The longtime head of the Cardiac Rehabilitation program at Penobscot Valley Hospital is retiring this week. April Fogg, RN began her career at PVH 21 years ago. Although another registered nurse had started the cardiac rehab program at the hospital, Fogg is credited by her peers for nurturing the department and helping it grow into what it is today.
“April cannot be replaced.” says CEO David A. Shannon. “But we have some wonderful staff to carry on the work she cultivated.”
Fogg says it’s the people who have kept her at PVH for so many years. “Every day is rewarding in its own way,” she says. “They’re all so unique and different, making each encounter interesting.”
“April is the face of the program,” says Chief Nursing Officer Karen Mueller. “She’s passionate about it, and she’s helped so many people lead healthier, happier lives through lifestyle changes.”
Fogg is a quiet individual who prefers not to have her picture taken and specifically requested no fanfare at her retirement, but those who work with her have a deep respect for her abilities and her commitment to her patients.
“Without April, the program wouldn’t be where it is today,” says Lisa O’Connor, RN. “She has been a role model for all of us.”
Fogg says she’s looking forward to having more time for some of her hobbies and her four grandchildren. “Life is fun,” she says. “I’m very blessed to live so close to my grandkids.”
