Cardiac Rehabilitation

You're on Your Way to a Healthier Heart
Cardiac Rehabilitation is done through our Cardiopulmonary Care Department and generally begins after you have experienced a cardiac event or your heart disease has become unstable, or perhaps your doctor has recommended that you improve your physical fitness.

Cardiac Rehabilitation may help if you:
    • Have been diagnosed with heart problems
    • Have a heart attack
    • Have undergone heart surgery
    • Have high blood pressure
    • Have high cholesterol
    • Are physically inactive

What Can You Expect?
You will attend three sessions a week. These sessions will include a warm-up period and active exercise using state-of-the-art equipment: an exercise bike, treadmill, rowing machine, and an arm ergometer followed by a cool down-session. Once a week, a teaching/discussion session will be held after your exercises. During these sessions, you and your significant other will learn about diet, stress management, smoking, and many other topics that affect your well being.

Is It Safe for Me To Exercise?
This program is designed to increase your endurance at a moderate pace, and you progress on an individual basis. During each session, your blood pressure is checked, frequently, and your heart rate is continuously monitored by trained medical personnel.

Does This Mean I Won't Need To See My Doctor Regularly?
No! This program is not a substitute for your doctor's care. It is developed to work with your physician to enhance your recovery.

Who Is Involved with My Care?
The staff is under the direction of a medical doctor. You will be seen and monitored at each session by a registered nurse who is certified in advanced cardiac life support. A cardiopulmonary therapist, physical therapist and staff dietician are also part of the rehab team to help you on your return to a healthy lifestyle.

What Is the Cost?
Cardiac Rehab programs are covered by most insurance carriers. Our Patient Accounting Department will assist you with this aspect.
