Emergency Services

Penobscot Valley Hospital’s services include a 24-hour emergency department and a 2-vehicle ambulance service covering a 1,300 square mile area—roughly the size of Rhode Island. An average of 700 emergency patients a month are evaluated and cared for by a multi-disciplinary team of emergency healthcare professionals.
Pre-hospital care is provided for about 110 area residents a month. Ambulances are dispatched through the statewide 911 dispatch system and by direct calls to the hospital’s emergency telephone lines:
Lincoln: (207) 794-2911
Howland: (207) 732-4105 (or 911)
Registered professional nurses with additional Critical Care/Intermediate EMS licensure and emergency medical technicians licensed by the Maine EMS system provide staffing for the PVH Emergency Department. These dedicated personnel provide comprehensive emergency care from accident scenes and illness through the transport to the hospital and beyond.
In 2006, the community rallied behind PVH and helped raise enough money so the hospital could purchase two, new ambulances to serve the region. These machines are housed at the hospital in Lincoln and in Howland.
