| (Lincoln, ME)— Seventy-nine earnest golfers braved the fierce wind and pelting rain on Friday, August 24th to participate in the 1st Annual Golf Tournament for Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln. The tournament was held at JaTo Highlands Golf Course, which offers some of the best views in the state. Unfortunately, the mountains were obscured by some significant fog, but that didn’t seem to put a damper on the fun. In fact, most of the golfers were ready for the bad weather, with nylon pants and jackets designed to keep most, if not all, the rain from soaking them. | |

Mulligans, or second-chance shots, were a big fund-raiser for the hospital. “We raised $420 just in mulligan sales on the day of the tournament,” says spokeswoman Allison Bankston. “All in all, when you combine mulligans and same-day player and team registrations, we raised an additional $1,200 just on the day of the tournament.”
PVH gave out a slew of prizes for the tournament, including gift certificates of $25-75 from Dick's Sporting Goods, two IPod Nanos, golf balls, and passes to Penobscot Valley Country Club. Each player also received a goody bag that included a polo shirt, donated by Select Embroidery, chocolates made to look like golf balls and clubs which were made by Sweet Creations by Roseanne, and many other tasty treats and trinkets. The key sponsors of the event were Cole-Whitney Ford, Select Embroidery, and Unidine, but more than a dozen businesses helped PVH put on the event.

All told, the golfers and sponsors helped the hospital raise a total of about $9,500. That money will go directly into PVH’s Annual Fund 2007, and this year’s goal is to raise money to upgrade patient rooms at the hospital. The objective is to make the rooms more comfortable and pleasant for both patients and loved ones visiting them.
The upgrades would include such things as new visitor chairs and other furniture, new bedding and window-coverings, new televisions, basic renovations such as painting, and artwork. | |

“It’s all about making a patient’s hospital stay more comfortable and the rooms more appealing,” says Bankston. “The improvements will have an impact on those we treat at PVH and their families and friends.”
Last year, the hospital upgraded its waiting areas and added a new surgical wing. Bankston says they have even more significant projects in the works for future years, but it’s all about taking one step at a time. “First, we’ll focus on patient rooms and enhance the care we’re already giving. Then we’ll look at ways to add more treatment options. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who helped make this golf tournament a success.”
