PVH Physical Therapists Offer Free Balance and Posture Screenings
    Wondering how you are doing with maintaining your posture? How about your balance-how has it been lately? On Tuesday, October 25, the Penobscot Valley Hospital Rehab & Wellness Center on Main Street in Lincoln will be holding an Open House offering free balance and posture screenings from 1-3pm.

    PVH Physical Therapist Katie Neal recommends, “Good posture and flexibility are important for the protection of bone health as well as improving digestion and breathing. Proper posture is not just while you are sitting at the computer, but also while you are walking, standing and even driving.”

    Neal offers tips for maintaining good posture:
    · Keep your back, stomach and leg muscles strong and flexible.
    · Do not slouch, keep your spine and head straight, use a pillow in the low part of your back to keep you in good alignment.
    · Complete regular exercise for flexibility and strengthening your muscles.

    Physical therapists are able to assist people with improving their balance. Falls are dangerous and can cause broken bones in addition to lengthy hospital or rehab stays.

    Physical therapists (PT) play an important role in helping people maintain, improve and restore the mobility necessary to stay fit, active and independent. PTs also:
    · Significantly improve mobility to perform daily activities;
    · Provide an alternative to painful and expensive surgery, in many cases;
    · Manage or eliminate pain without medication and its side effects, in many cases.

    “These free balance and posture screenings PVH is offering at our Open House will help people get a baseline knowledge about their balance. We will be teaching people tips to help prevent falls and help answer questions on any concerns they have,” adds Neal.

    Please join the PVH Rehab & Wellness Center on Tuesday, October 25 as they celebrate National Physical Therapy Month with this free balance and posture screening.
