PVH Copes With Changes in Electric Rates
July 30, 2008
Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln does not anticipate any changes in patient care services based on the rising rates from Bangor Hydro Electric Company. “Like most families in America, PVH is looking at practical ways to cut costs and maintain a healthy budget,” says PVH Spokesperson Allison Bankston. Her comments come on the heels of an announcement from Bangor Hydro saying electric rates will be increasing by about 20-percent for commercial customers.
“We’re a non-profit, small, rural hospital, and we will have to find ways to counteract this rise in our overhead,” says Ann Marie Rush, the hospital’s Chief Financial Officer. Rush says the hospital in Lincoln will be assessing its non-patient care divisions to find ways to lower expenses.
“Our biggest priority is to maintain the services we already provide to the community,” says Rush. “We just found out about the change in Hydro rates today, so it will take some time for us to examine our entire operating budget and make plans for the future.”
Bankston says the hospital has had to adjust to a number of changes in operational expenses this last year. “The price of oil obviously has many people and businesses concerned, but we’re working to sustain our existing services.”
