S.P.R.I.N.T for Life

Healthy Maine Partnerships

S.P.R.I.N.T. for Life (Supplying the Penobscot Region with Information on Nutrition, Tobacco, and Physical Activity for Life) is one of the 31 sites funded by an award from the Campaign for a Healthy Maine Tobacco Settlement.
This community partnership grant provides funding to educate the 14 communities in our service area about the risks of tobacco use, as well as focusing on preventing tobacco related diseases, increasing physical activity, and improving nutrition.
These goals are accomplished using educational materials and through the development and promotion of supportive services in our communities.
The education, coupled with the awareness of available services, will help people to make the decision to live healthier lives.
A community coalition, which meets monthly, has been created to help meet our goals. This coalition is made up of people who represent many sectors of the community. Through the work of this group, we hope to reduce tobacco use, increase physical activity, improve nutrition, and decrease substance abuse among our youth. Three Youth Action Programs have also been created. These groups focus on citizen advocacy through our youth and help us to achieve our goal of healthier lifestyles in our community.
