| Bake Sale Yields a Wii

A smart idea from one of the nurses at Penobscot Valley Hospital has raised enough money for a Nintendo Wii gaming system. Lisa Tomilson, RN realized a Wii would be a big help to many of our patients and clients. Unlike some conventional video game systems, the Wii allows players to be a bit more active. A patient would be able to sit in a wheelchair and try their hand at bowling, tennis, or other games, because the Wii remote controllers actually register the movements of your hands and arms.
Tomilson suggested getting the help of the PVH Auxiliary, which agreed to organize a bake sale for the effort. The hospital needed $350 to buy the gaming system. The volunteers and Tomilson set up a display in the main lobby of the hospital for just one day and collected $650. Staff members and volunteers at the hospital baked all the goodies, including pies, cakes, fudge, and cookies.
The hospital will also be purchasing a DVD player for the day-room, because the bake sale raised enough money to pay for the Wii system, some games, and the additional machine. |
