Childbirth Education Returns to PVH
January 8, 2009
Penobscot Valley Hospital is once again offering childbirth education classes for the region. The course runs from 6:00-8:30 p.m. every Thursday for 6 weeks starting January 15, and the cost is $30 per couple for the 6-week session. These classes are not just about breathing techniques and medication choices. They will cover exercise, proper health during pregnancy, options during labor, baby care, reducing stress, and many other topics.
Assistant Inpatient Services Director Jana Rolerson is one of the instructors. She says the sessions covers overall good health and comfort measures along with what the mother can expect toward her due date. “We’ve seen many patients over the years who did not realize they have options that may significantly affect their labor comfort and the health of their babies and themselves,” says Rolerson. “This class will help them make educated and informed decisions that may make the experience more enjoyable for them.”
At the end of each session, the group will do stretches, relaxation techniques, and breathing exercises. Other 6-week sessions are scheduled to begin on April 16, July 23, and October 15, 2009. To sign up for the PVH Childbirth Education Course, contact Jana Rolerson at 794-7332.
