Golf Tournament Raises $13,000

(Lincoln, ME)— Penobscot Valley Hospital’s 2nd Annual Golf Tournament brought in more than $12,000, thanks to the generosity of golfers and sponsors. “That’s a 20% increase over what we raised last year,” says PVH Spokesperson Allison Bankston. “Local businesses really stepped up for the hospital, along with area golfers. We’re really pleased with the outcome.”

All the money raised this year is going toward patient room renovations, including such things as new bedding and curtains, décor, lighting, visitors’ chairs, and other improvements to make patients and their loved ones more comfortable. The PVH Marketing and Fund Development team is wasting no time planning for the next event. “We’re expecting the tournament to grow significantly each year, thanks to the help of our donors, volunteers, and JaTo Highlands which was extremely helpful in making this year’s contest a success,” says Fund Development Coordinator Jessica Fogg.

More than 70 players took part in the event on August 22nd, and there was no sign of the heavy rain and high winds that caused problems for last year’s golfers. “The weather was just perfect,” says CEO David Shannon, who played in the tournament. “We couldn’t have asked for better conditions.”

The tournament boasted three hole-in-one prizes: 1) a trip to Williamsburg, Virginia, 2) a bass boat with a trailer, 3) and a Chevy Extended Cab Pickup provided by Clay’s GMC. The truck was actually at the golf course for players to see. No one won the top prizes. The other top sponsors included Select Embroidery, Unidine, Spectrum, Berry, Dunn, McNeil, and Parker and NEHE MRI, LLC.

The $200 team registration fee included 18 holes of golf, a goody bag, a power cart, a free putting contest, and a BBQ dinner after the tournament. Bankston says the goody bags were especially nice this year, thanks to the generosity of local businesses. The bags included:
ˇ Golf Towels from Pattagumpus Village
ˇ Specialty Golf Chocolates from Sweet Creations
ˇ Golf Tees & from VP Promotions and Anthem
ˇ First Aid Kits from Anthem
    ˇ Cozies Provided by C. W. A. & Lake Street Real Estate
ˇ Visors and Pens from F.A. Peabody
ˇ Mints from Storage Systems Unlimited.
ˇ Hand Sanitizers from Philips Lifeline
    ˇ Snacks Provided by PVH
ˇ Golf Vests Provided Through a Donation from Select Embroidery

Player Prizes were sponsored this year by United Bank of Switzerland, Dahl-Chase Pathology Associates, and Carl’s Auto Parts, Inc. Team prizes are sponsored by Custom Learning Systems Group, Ltd. and Pizzagalli Construction Company.

Other raffle and door prizes have donated by Backwoods Post and Beam, Twist of Heaven, Wing Wah Restaurant, Nonesuch River Golf Club, Bangor Municipal Golf Course, Aroostook Valley Country Club, Hermon Meadows Golf Club, Val Halla Golf Course, Marden’s in Lincoln, and Capello Hair Studio and Day Spa.

“We’d especially like to thank Eric Dubay at JaTo Highlands and the club’s golf pro, Jaymis Dougans, who helped us raise more money through a pro-shot,” says Fogg. “We really couldn’t put on this event without JaTo’s help.”
