PVH Industrial Medicine Moves to Downtown Lincoln

(Lincoln, ME)— Penobscot Valley Hospital is moving its industrial medicine program to downtown Lincoln, to make a number of services more easily accessible to local professionals. Health Works, which operates the PVH occupational health program, will be moving into the PVH Rehabilitation and Wellness Center across from Marden’s.

“The majority of the referrals from the PVH occupational medicine program go to our therapists in the rehabilitation clinic,” says Director of Rehabilitation Services Mike Butterfield. “It just makes sense to make everything centrally located.”

Tests such as blood draws and urinary testing will still need to be done at the hospital on Transalpine Road in Lincoln, along with x-rays. “Most of our clients are accustomed to having to visit our PVH Laboratory or the Imaging Department (x-ray) to get testing done,” says Senior Director of Business Development Joe Grant. “Although it means some people will have to visit the hospital and the clinic downtown, the majority of our patients will find the combining of our Industrial Medicine and Rehab Center to be much more convenient than the current setup.” Grant says there’s much more parking at the Rehab Center, and it’s not as remote as the hospital.

The move also allows for more space for the clinic workers and more storage. Plus, Grant says the change in location will make the Industrial Medicine program easier to find and a quicker stop for most local professionals.

The change takes place on Tuesday, August 5, 2008. Moving the Industrial Medicine program will also help make room for the newest PVH surgeon, Dr. Samer Sbayi, who is expected to begin seeing patients later this summer.

Also housed in the PVH Clinic on the second floor of the hospital will be Dr. Brian Miller, an ear, nose, and throat physician who is tentatively scheduled to start seeing patients and performing surgical procedures in August. Dr. Miller’s schedule will be divided among PVH, Millinocket Regional Hospital, and Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover Foxcroft. “We’re very excited to have these new doctors starting at PVH,” says Grant. “This move will help us better meet the needs of our local business clients who utilize the Industrial Medicine program while providing the space needed at the hospital, so we can expand surgical services.”
